Over the past few weeks, we have talked about how covid has increased the demand for commercial sexual services. How just one of the largest porn content sharing websites is reporting about 200,000 new users every 24 hours since March. We have talked about how the economic pressure and social isolation of covid has increased vulnerability and susceptibility to exploitation and trafficking. And how exploiters are working to meet the increase in demand by preying on the vulnerable.
The truth is, all of this has also led to increased need for the services Treasures offers. As soon as Covid hit, we moved our support groups online so we could continue providing much needed care during challenging times. Recognizing the increased need in front of us, we launched an additional weekly support group to make ourselves available to the growing number of women who are looking for support.
Additionally, this year, we began partnering with the National Human Trafficking Hotline as a service provider. As a result, we are providing more crisis response than ever before. Since March, the number of women we serve each week has doubled. The bottom line, our delivery of services and support has increased, and yet, our staff has not. We have risen to the occasion, and done everything we can to respond to the crisis we are all facing, but the truth is, this is not sustainable.
In order to be able to continue to provide quality, effective support to the women we serve, we need to increase our bandwidth by adding more staff.
The need for help is great. The outlook, for many, is dire.
Your support is CRITICAL for us to help women out of a life of exploitation and trafficking.
