Mission and Vision
Mission
Treasures is a unique, faith-based outreach and support group for women in the sex industry, including victims of commercialized sexual exploitation and trafficking. As the only organization of its kind based in the adult industry capital of the world (San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County) and one of the few survivor-led organizations in the country, our mission is to reach, restore and equip women in order to help them live healthy, flourishing lives.
Through Treasures Trainings, we are committed to train, equip and mobilize other churches and leaders to develop sex industry outreaches in their communities.
Vision
We are a group of women and men who are rooted in God, planted in His church, and are passionate about equipping women to live the flourishing lives they were created for. Our vision is to reach, restore & equip women in the sex industry, including victims of trafficking, and to let them know there is a God who loves them beyond measure. Our goal is to encourage them through prayer, story, relationship, and the word of God, in order to help them realize that they are loved, valued, and purposed. Our desire is that these women would experience breaking of chains and healing of wounds through a personal relationship with Jesus.
Organizational Values
These values are the driving force behind our ministry. How we express our values establishes the culture of the organization.
Unity
In an industry where women are required to be in competition with one another, unity is a powerful antidote. We are each uniquely different, yet unified in vision, values and our love and respect for one another.
Unity is the remedy for division. It is the pathway to peace.
“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” Ephesians 4:3
Authentic Community
Authentic community is a powerful agent that facilitates healing, growth, and a sense of belonging in the world.
Knowing and being known by others counteracts isolation. Authenticity in our relationships with one another allows us to be our true self and creates the conditions for us to live with integrity. Transparency and honesty are central to authentic community.
By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:35
Integrity
“If we live with integrity nothing else matters. If we don’t live with integrity, nothing else matters” ~Unknown Author.
Being who we say we are, and doing what we say we are going to do is of the utmost importance.
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. Proverbs 11:3 NIV
Transformation
None of us have arrived. We recognize that becoming who we have been created to be is a life-long journey. We are committed to the process and celebrate the journey along the way.
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
Genuine Faith
Genuine faith is authentic and relational. It integrates our beliefs and our lifestyle. It infiltrates the choices we make and shapes our perspectives.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Mark 12:30 NIV
Story
Story matters. If you see the humanity in a person, it becomes more difficult to sexualize and objectify them. We believe the story is one of the most powerful and effective tools for seeing this happen. Stats can be dry. Data can be argued. But story stands on it’s own.
Story inspires us to hope. When we see that someone else has overcome, it encourages us to do the same.
They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony… Revelations 12:11
Outreach
The work we do begins with “an invitation”. An invitation to healing, to relationship, to life-change, to freedom. Outreach is the method by which we extend this invitation.
We believe in meeting people where they are at and loving them as they are. We can’t do this if we don’t show up in the first place.
But how can people call for help if they don’t know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven’t heard of the One who can be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them? And how is anyone going to tell them, unless someone is sent to do it? Romans 10:14
Education
In order to see women in the sex industry reached world-wide, we are committed to using our experience in this area to train other leaders in order to help them develop strong, grassroots, effective outreaches to women in the sex industry in their communities.
To facilitate change in the culture, context and demand side of the sex industry, education is vital. Through education, we endeavor to deconstruct the façade of glamour surrounding the sex industry and bring awareness to we are committed to the public and church community in the realities of the sex industry.
Partnership
As a volunteer-driven, community-based, church-rooted organization supported primarily by individual donors, we value partnership. Partnership enables us to thrive as an organization and is vital to the work we do.
The One
Although there are more women in the sex industry than any other time in history, we believe the work we do never gets bigger than “the one”. Although we hope to reach and impact woman on a global scale, we are committed to being faithful to serve each one with excellence.
Do for one what you wish you could do for everyone. ~Andy Stanley
What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray and gets lost, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountain and go in search of the one that is lost? Matthew 18:12
Commitment
Healing is a journey. Recovery is a process. To see life change happen in the lives of the women we reach, we must be in it for the long haul. Commitment is central to each and every one of our values.
In a world where abdication, abuse and abandonment have caused so much pain for the women we serve. Faithfulness is what it takes to see women walk in freedom and healing.
Celebration
We work hard, play regularly and laugh often. Celebrating special moments and victories along the way makes the journey sustainable and fun!
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. Psalm 126:2-3 NIV
